Due to his failing health, Elder Grotheer requested that ALF of Canada continue publishing thoughts through its website www.AdventistAlet.com which developed into frequent Blog Thought articles plus all of the Foundation's historical published works written and audio.

As of 2010, with the official closing of the ALF of USA , The Adventist Laymen's Foundation of Canada with its website www.Adventist Alert.com is the only officially operating ALF branch established by Elder Grotheer worldwide.

We are thankful for the historical legacy that is now available through

The Adventist Laymen's Foundation of Canada,

info@AdventistAlert.com

The MISSION of this site -- is to make available the articles from the thought paper "Watchman, What of the Night?" It is not our purpose to copy WWN in whole.

TEN COMMANDMENTS
as COMPARED IN THE
THE KING JAMES VERSION
And NEW INTERNATIONAL VERSION
And THE HEBREW INTERLINEAR

Exodus 20 (King James Version) Hebrew Interlinear
Exodus 20 (New International Version)
1And God spake all these words, saying, 1 And God spoke all these words, saying 1 And God spoke all these words:
2 I am the LORD thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. 2 I (am) Jehovah your God, who has brought you out from the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage. 2 "I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery.
3 Thou shalt have no other gods before me. 3 You shall not have any other gods besides Me. 3 "You shall have no other gods before [a] me.

4 Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.

4. You shall not make for yourself a graven image, or any likeness which (is) in the heavens above, or which (is) in the earth beneath, or which (is) in the waters under the earth; 4 "You shall not make for yourself an idol in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below.
5 Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;
5 you shall not bow yourself to them, and you shall not serve them; for I (am) Jehovah your God, a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of fathers on children, on the third generation, and on the fourth generation, to those that hate Me; 5 You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the fathers to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me,
6 And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments 6 and doing kindness to thousands, to those loving Me, and to those keeping My commandments. 6 but showing love to a thousand {generations} of those who love me and keep my commandments.
7 Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain. 7 You shall not take the name of Jehovah your God in vain; for Jehovah will not leave unpunished him who takes His name in vain. 7 "You shall not misuse the name of the LORD your God, for the LORD will not hold anyone guiltless who misuses his name.
8Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.
8 Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. 8 "Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy.
9Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work:
9 Six days you shall labor and do all your work; 9 Six days you shall labor and do all your work,
10But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates:
10 and the seventh day (is) a Sabbath to Jehovah your God; you shall not do any work, you, and your son, and your daughter, your male slave, and your female slave, and your cattle, and your stranger who (is) in your gates. 10 but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the LORD your God. On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your manservant or maidservant, nor your animals, nor the alien within your gates.
11For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it. 11 For (in) six days Jehovah made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all which (is) in them, and He rested on the seventh day; therefore Jehovah blessed the Sabbath day and sanctified it. 11 For in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but he rested on the seventh day. Therefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.
12Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee. 12 Honor your father and your mother, so that your days may be long on the land which Jehovah your God is giving to you. 12 "Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the LORD your God is giving you.
13Thou shalt not kill. 13 You shall not murder. 13 "You shall not murder.
14Thou shalt not commit adultery. 14 You shall not commit adultery. 14 "You shall not commit adultery.
15Thou shalt not steal. 15 You shall not steal. 15 "You shall not steal.
16Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour. 16 You shall not testify against your neighbor a witness of falsehood. 16 "You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor.
17Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbour's. 17 You shall not covet your neighbor's house, you shall not covet your neighbor's wife, or his male slave, or his female slave, or his ox, or his ass, or anything which (belongs) to your neighbor. 17 "You shall not covet your neighbor's house. You shall not covet your neighbor's wife, or his manservant or maidservant, his ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor."
18And all the people saw the thunderings, and the lightnings, and the noise of the trumpet, and the mountain smoking: and when the people saw it, they removed, and stood afar off.
18 And all the people saw the thunders, and the lightenings, and the sound of the ram's horn, and the smoking mountain; and the people looked, and they tremembled and they stood from a distance. 18 When the people saw the thunder and lightning and heard the trumpet and saw the mountain in smoke, they trembled with fear. They stayed at a distance
19And they said unto Moses, Speak thou with us, and we will hear: but let not God speak with us, lest we die. 19 And they said to Moses, You speak with us, and we will hear; and let us not speak with God, lest we die. 19 and said to Moses, "Speak to us yourself and we will listen. But do not have God speak to us or we will die."

20And Moses said unto the people, Fear not: for God is come to prove you, and that his fear may be before your faces, that ye sin not.
20 And Moses said to the people, Do not be afraid, for God has come in order to test you, and so that His fear may be upon your faces, that you may not sin. 20 Moses said to the people, "Do not be afraid. God has come to test you, so that the fear of God will be with you to keep you from sinning."
21And the people stood afar off, and Moses drew near unto the thick darkness where God was. 21 And the people stood from a distance, and Moses approached the thick darkness where God (was). 21 The people remained at a distance, while Moses approached the thick darkness where God was.
22And the LORD said unto Moses, Thus thou shalt say unto the children of Israel, Ye have seen that I have talked with you from heaven. 22 And Jehovah said to Moses, You shall say this to the children of Israel, You have seen that I have spoken with you from the heavens.

Idols and Altars
22 Then the LORD said to Moses, "Tell the Israelites this: 'You have seen for yourselves that I have spoken to you from heaven:

23Ye shall not make with me gods of silver, neither shall ye make unto you gods of gold.
23 You shall not make with Me gods of silver, and you shall not make gods of gold for yourselves.

23 Do not make any gods to be alongside me; do not make for yourselves gods of silver or gods of gold.

24An altar of earth thou shalt make unto me, and shalt sacrifice thereon thy burnt offerings, and thy peace offerings, thy sheep, and thine oxen: in all places where I record my name I will come unto thee, and I will bless thee. 24 You shall make an alter of earth for Me, and you shall sacrifice your burnt offerings and your peace offerings on it, your sheep and your cattle; in every place (in) which I cause My name to be remembered, I will come to you and will bless you.

24 " 'Make an altar of earth for me and sacrifice on it your burnt offerings and fellowship offerings, [b] your sheep and goats and your cattle. Wherever I cause my name to be honored, I will come to you and bless you.

25And if thou wilt make me an altar of stone, thou shalt not build it of hewn stone: for if thou lift up thy tool upon it, thou hast polluted it.
25 And if you make an alter of stone for Me, you shall not build them of cut stones; when you swing your tool on it, you defile it.

25 If you make an altar of stones for me, do not build it with dressed stones, for you will defile it if you use a tool on it.

26Neither shalt thou go up by steps unto mine altar, that thy nakedness be not discovered thereon. 26 And you shall not go up by steps to My alter, that your nakedness may not be uncovered on it.

26 And do not go up to my altar on steps, lest your nakedness be exposed on it.'

2The LORD our God made a covenant with us in Horeb.

3The LORD made not this covenant with our fathers, but with us, even us, who are all of us here alive this day.
3 Jehovah did not cut this covenant with our fathers, but with us, (even) us who are all of us here, alive today. 3 It was not with our fathers that the LORD made this covenant, but with us, with all of us who are alive here today.
4The LORD talked with you face to face in the mount out of the midst of the fire,
4 Jehovah talked with you face to face in the mountain out of the midst of the fire; 4 The LORD spoke to you face to face out of the fire on the mountain.
5(I stood between the LORD and you at that time, to shew you the word of the LORD: for ye were afraid by reason of the fire, and went not up into the mount;) saying, 5 I stood between Jehovah and you at that time, to declare to you the word of Jehovah; for you were afraid because of the fire, and you did not go up into the mountain, saying, 5 (At that time I stood between the LORD and you to declare to you the word of the LORD, because you were afraid of the fire and did not go up the mountain.) And he said:
6I am the LORD thy God, which brought thee out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage. 6 I (am) Jehovah your God who brought you out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage. 6 "I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery.

9Thou shalt not bow down thyself unto them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me,
9 you shall not bow yourself to them nor serve them, for I Jehovah your God (am) a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of fathers on children, and on the third and on the fourth (generation) of those that hate Me, 9 You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the fathers to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me,

12Keep the sabbath day to sanctify it, as the LORD thy God hath commanded thee.

12 Observe the sabbath day, to keep it holy, as Jehovah your God has commanded you. 12 "Observe the Sabbath day by keeping it holy, as the LORD your God has commanded you.
13Six days thou shalt labour, and do all thy work:
13 Six days you shall labor, and do all your work, 13 Six days you shall labor and do all your work,
14But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, nor thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thine ox, nor thine ass, nor any of thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates; that thy manservant and thy maidservant may rest as well as thou.
14 and the seventh day (shall be) a sabbath to Jehovah your God; you shall not do any work, you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your male slave, nor your femald slave, nor your ox, nor your ass, nor any of your livestock, nor your alien that (is) inside your gates; so that your male slave and your female slave may rest like yourself; 14 but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the LORD your God. On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your manservant or maidservant, nor your ox, your donkey or any of your animals, nor the alien within your gates, so that your manservant and maidservant may rest, as you do.
15And remember that thou wast a servant in the land of Egypt, and that the LORD thy God brought thee out thence through a mighty hand and by a stretched out arm: therefore the LORD thy God commanded thee to keep the sabbath day. 15 and remember that you were a slave in the land of Egypt, and Jehovah your God has brought you out from there by a mighty hand, and by a stretched out arm; therefore Jehovah your God has commanded you to keep the sabbath day. 15 Remember that you were slaves in Egypt and that the LORD your God brought you out of there with a mighty hand and an outstretched arm. Therefore the LORD your God has commanded you to observe the Sabbath day.
16Honour thy father and thy mother, as the LORD thy God hath commanded thee; that thy days may be prolonged, and that it may go well with thee, in the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee. 16 Honor your father and your mother, as Jehovah your God has commanded you, so that your days may be prolonged, and so that it may be well with you in the land which Jehovah your God has given you. 16 "Honor your father and your mother, as the LORD your God has commanded you, so that you may live long and that it may go well with you in the land the LORD your God is giving you.

19Neither shalt thou steal. 19 you shall not steal. 19 "You shall not steal.
20Neither shalt thou bear false witness against thy neighbour. 20 You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor. 20 "You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor.
21Neither shalt thou desire thy neighbour's wife, neither shalt thou covet thy neighbour's house, his field, or his manservant, or his maidservant, his ox, or his ass, or any thing that is thy neighbour's. 21 You shall not lust after your neighbor's wife; nor shall you covet your neighbor's house, his field, nor his male slave, nor his female slave, his ox, nor his ass, nor anything which (is) your neighbor's. 21 "You shall not covet your neighbor's wife. You shall not set your desire on your neighbor's house or land, his manservant or maidservant, his ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor."

22These words the LORD spake unto all your assembly in the mount out of the midst of the fire, of the cloud, and of the thick darkness, with a great voice: and he added no more. And he wrote them in two tables of stone, and delivered them unto me.

22 Jehovah spoke these words to all your assembly, on the mount out of the midst of the fire, of the cloud, and out of the thick darkness (with) a great voice; and He added no more; and He wrote them on two tablets of stone and gave them to me.
22 These are the commandments the LORD proclaimed in a loud voice to your whole assembly there on the mountain from out of the fire, the cloud and the deep darkness; and he added nothing more. Then he wrote them on two stone tablets and gave them to me.
23And it came to pass, when ye heard the voice out of the midst of the darkness, (for the mountain did burn with fire,) that ye came near unto me, even all the heads of your tribes, and your elders;
23 And it came to pass, when you heard the voice out of the mdst of the darkness, while the mountain burned with fire, that you came near to me, (even) all the rulers of your tribes, and your elders; 23 When you heard the voice out of the darkness, while the mountain was ablaze with fire, all the leading men of your tribes and your elders came to me.
24And ye said, Behold, the LORD our God hath shewed us his glory and his greatness, and we have heard his voice out of the midst of the fire: we have seen this day that God doth talk with man, and he liveth.
24 and you said, Behold, Jehovah your God has revealed to us His glory and His greatness, and we have heard His voice out of the midst of the fire; we have seen today that God speaks with man, and He lives. 24 And you said, "The LORD our God has shown us his glory and his majesty, and we have heard his voice from the fire. Today we have seen that a man can live even if God speaks with him.
25Now therefore why should we die? for this great fire will consume us: if we hear the voice of the LORD our God any more, then we shall die.
25 Now, then, why should we die? For this great fire will consume us; if we hear the voice of Jehovah our God any more, then we shall die. 25 But now, why should we die? This great fire will consume us, and we will die if we hear the voice of the LORD our God any longer.
26For who is there of all flesh, that hath heard the voice of the living God speaking out of the midst of the fire, as we have, and lived?
26 For who of all flesh that has heard the voice of the living God speaking out of the midst of the fire, as we and (has) lived? 26 For what mortal man has ever heard the voice of the living God speaking out of fire, as we have, and survived?
27Go thou near, and hear all that the LORD our God shall say: and speak thou unto us all that the LORD our God shall speak unto thee; and we will hear it, and do it. 27 You go near and hear all that Jehovah our God may say; and you shall speak to us all that Jehovah our God may speak to you; and we will hear it and do (it). 27 Go near and listen to all that the LORD our God says. Then tell us whatever the LORD our God tells you. We will listen and obey."
28And the LORD heard the voice of your words, when ye spake unto me; and the LORD said unto me, I have heard the voice of the words of this people, which they have spoken unto thee: they have well said all that they have spoken. 28 And Jehovah heard the voice of your words, when you spoke to me; and Jehovah said to me, I have heard the voice of the words of this people, which they have spoken to you; they have well said all that they have spoken. 28 The LORD heard you when you spoke to me and the LORD said to me, "I have heard what this people said to you. Everything they said was good.
29 O that there were such an heart in them, that they would fear me, and keep all my commandments always, that it might be well with them, and with their children for ever! 29 O that they had such a heart as this always, to fear Me, and keep all My commandments, that it might be well with them, and with their sons forever. 29 Oh, that their hearts would be inclined to fear me and keep all my commands always, so that it might go well with them and their children forever!
30Go say to them, Get you into your tents again.
30 Go say to them, Return to your tents. 30 "Go, tell them to return to their tents.
31But as for thee, stand thou here by me, and I will speak unto thee all the commandments, and the statutes, and the judgments, which thou shalt teach them, that they may do them in the land which I give them to possess it.
31 But as for you, you stand here by Me, and I will speak to you all the commandments and the statutes and the ordinances which you shall teach them, that they may do them in the land which I give them to possess it. 31 But you stay here with me so that I may give you all the commands, decrees and laws you are to teach them to follow in the land I am giving them to possess."
32Ye shall observe to do therefore as the LORD your God hath commanded you: ye shall not turn aside to the right hand or to the left.
32 And you shall be careful to do as Jehovah your God has commanded you; you shall not turn aside to the right or left; 32 So be careful to do what the LORD your God has commanded you; do not turn aside to the right or to the left.
33Ye shall walk in all the ways which the LORD your God hath commanded you, that ye may live, and that it may be well with you, and that ye may prolong your days in the land which ye shall possess.
END KJV
33 you shall walk in all the ways which Jehovah your God has commanded you, so that you may live and good (may be) to you, and you may prolong (your) days in the land which you will possess.
